Professor Eryk Dutkiewicz obtained his Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Adelaide, Australia in 1988, his Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Adelaide, Australia in 1992 and his PhD (Telecommunications) from the University of Wollongong, Australia in 1996. From 1999 to 2004 he worked at Motorola Laboratories in Sydney where he managed a wireless research laboratory. During that time he was also deeply involved in the development of the popular WiFi technology. Since returning to academia in 2004 he has worked closely with industry partners including Motorola, Freescale, and Intel on projects involving wireless sensor networks, 4G and 5G mobile communications networks, medical wireless body area networks and IoT networks. He is currently the Head of School of Computing and Communications at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia. Prof. Dutkiewicz has held visiting professorial appointments at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, City University of Hong Kong and Coventry University in the UK. He is an author of over 200 research papers and several book chapters. His professional activities in recent years included participation on various International Steering Committees. He is the General Chair of IEEE VTC 2017-Spring in Sydney.
Professor Eric Tsui had spent 16 years in industry with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in Australia taking on various capacities including Chief Research Officer and Innovation Manager. During this period, he has made significant contributions to the company’s expert systems products, applied research and innovation programmes.
In 2002, he was appointed Professor of Knowledge Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University under the President’s Distinguished Professionals Scheme; he joined the university full time in 2005. His speciality areas are Knowledge technologies including Search Engines, Portals, Personal Knowledge Management, Personal Learning Environments, and Knowledge Cloud services.
A Vice President of the Hong Kong Knowledge Management Society, he is also honorary advisor to the Hong Kong Police College, the Correctional Services Department and the Efficiency Unit, and a member of the IT Technical Advisory Sub-Committee of the Hospital Authority in the HKSARG. In 2014, he received the Knowledge Management Leadership Award conferred by the Global KM Congress and a Shortlisted Finalist of UGC Teaching Award in Hong Kong and in 2015, he further received the Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital Excellence Award from ACPI and the Golden Award in the Region Asia category of the Wharton QS Stars Reimagine Education Award. In 2016, his design of a Personal Learning Environment earned PolyU a Platinum Winner of the LearnX Impact Award.
A veteran of E-Learning, Eric is the Chair of the Advisory Committee on ELearning, Chair of the MOOC Steering Group and Facilitator of the Community of Practice on the use of Learning Management System at his university. He designed and delivered PolyU’s inaugural MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) titled “Knowledge Management and Big Data in Business” on MIT’s edX platform in August 2015 and has attracted so far more than 42,000 enrolments worldwide.
DR. Minoru Okada received the B.E. degree in communications engineering from the University of Electro- Communications, Tokyo, Japan, in 1990. He received the M.E and Ph.D. degrees in communications engineering from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1992 and 1998, respectively. From 1993 to 2000, he was a Research Associate at Osaka University. From 1999 to 2000, he was a Visiting Research Fellow at University of Southampton, U.K. In 2000, he joined the Graduate School of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Nara, Japan, as an Associate Professor and became a Professor in 2006. His research interest is wireless communications, including WLAN, digital broadcasting, and satellite communications. Dr. Okada is a member of the Institute of Image, Information, and Television Engineers of Japan (ITEJ), the Institute of Television Engineers of Japan, the Institute of Electrical, Information, and Communication Engineers of Japan (IEICE), and the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ). He received the Young Engineer Award from IEICE in 1999.
Professor Keshav Dahal is the leader of the Artificial Intelligence, Visual Communication and Networks (AVCN) research centre at the University of the West of Scotland, UK. Prior to this he was with the University of Bradford and the University of Strathclyde, UK. His research interests lie in the areas of Computational intelligence, Machine learning, Big data mining, Scheduling/Optimisation, Trust/security modelling in cloud and distributed systems, and diagnosis/remote healthcare systems. His research paper on ‘reputation/trust modelling’ won the Best Paper award at an IEEE Conference. Prof. Dahal has an extensive experience in terms of research supervision and management of funded projects. He has been principal/co-investigator of 15 EU/UK/Industry funded projects worth over £4 million in last ten years. Currently, he is coordinating a consortium of 20 partners for EU Erasmus Mundus Action 2 ‘SmartLink’ project (2014-2018). He is also a co-investigator of the recently awarded EU H2020-ICT-2014-2 “SELFNET – Framework for Self-organized network management in virtualized and software defended networks” project (2015-2018). He has successfully supervised the completions of 4 Post-Doctoral and 13 PhD studies. Prof. Dahal has published over 100 peer-reviewed journals/conferences papers and 3 edited books, and has sat on organising/programme committees of over 50 reputed international conferences; including the general chair of the IEEE SKIMA 2015. He is a senior member of the IEEE and fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK.
